Louisiana Man Dies Two Days after Fleeing from Police
Officials with Louisiana State Police report a man who was fleeing police after a single-vehicle crash in the early morning hours of Wednesday, September 4, ultimately ended up dying as a result of the injuries he got when he crashed his car.
Louisiana State Police spokeswoman Peggy Bourque says at around two o'clock that Friday morning, deputies with the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office were trying to have the man pull over during a traffic stop that they had initiated.
Bourque says the deputies were trying to stop 30-year-old Taylor Alexander of New Iberia. She says that as deputies were in pursuit, Alexander began to speed down Louisiana Highway 87. He ended up driving down Louisiana Highway 3195, and Bourque says he lost control in a curve in the road.
Bourque says once he started losing control of his car, it ran off the road and flipped over right before landing in a ditch. Alexander was taken to an area hospital to be treated for severe injuries. He was not wearing a seatbelt.
As is typical in a serious crash, a blood sample was taken from Alexander, and his results showed he was over the legal limit of .08%. Alexander was being treated for his injuries a little less than a month before Louisiana State Police was informed he had died on Wednesday, October 2.
Louisiana State Police officials continue to investigate the crash.
