
UPDATE: Louisiana Officials Make an Arrest in a Homicide Case
UPDATE:
Officials with the Lafayette Police Department are releasing more information about a homicide that happened at around 1 o'clock Sunday morning.
According to Corporal Ashley Wood, a spokesperson with the Lafayette Police Department, an arrest has been made, and a suspect has been arrested in connection with the case.
Wood says detectives arrested 20-year-old Wikeem Smith on the following charges:
- Second-Degree Murder
- Resisting an Officer
- Possession of Marijuana
He was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center.
Wood says Smith also had an active warrant for his arrest out of Fort Smith, Arkansas.
The victim of the shooting death has been identified as 21-year-old Keiara Ledet.
The shooting happened on Pinhook Road near its intersection with Carmel Drive.

Officials in Louisiana are investigating another homicide that happened around 1 o'clock Sunday morning. Police were called to a hospital after being notified by the staff at the location that they had a patient who suffered a gunshot wound and died at the hospital.
Lafayette Police Department Corporal Ashley Wood, spokesperson for the Lafayette Police Department, says they were called out to the hospital after the victim had died from the gunshot wound.
Wood says there are many details about this crime that they do not know. They do not know where the shooting happened. Both the Lafayette Crime Scene Unit and detectives with the Lafayette Police Department are working on the case to gather as much information as they can about the circumstances surrounding this victim's death.
They have not released any information about whether or not the victim is male or female. We also do not know the age of the shooting victim.
How Can You Help The Police With This Case?
Wood says they are encouraging the public who might have any information about the shooting to come forward and share that with police. If you have something they need to know about, you can anonymously call the Lafayette Crime Stoppers TIPS line at 337-232-TIPS (8477).
In addition to calling, you have the option of downloading the Lafayette Police Department app and looking for the "Submit a Tip" tab. Once you click on it, you can give information to the police that way.
Another option for helping police with this case is to download the P3 app on your phone, or you can call **TIPS (**8477) from any mobile device. You could receive a cash reward for information leading to an arrest.
