Louisiana Woman’s Death Now Being Investigated as a Homicide
Louisiana law enforcement officials were called out to investigate after a woman was found unresponsive in a home on Carmel Drive. They subsequently determined there were suspicious circumstances, and they began investigating the case as a homicide.
According to Sergeant Robin Green, Public Information Officer with the Lafayette Police Department says the call came in for Lafayette Police Department officials to go to the 300 block of Carmel Drive around 9:30 in the evening, Thursday, February 20.
Green says when officers got to the scene, they, along with paramedics, worked to give CPR to the victim, 44-year-old Shantee Broussard of Lafayette.
They continued to do CPR, and Broussard was taken to a Lafayette hospital, but she was later pronounced dead.
As detectives began to look into what happened at the scene and events leading up to that time, they determined that Broussard and her boyfriend were involved in a domestic altercation before the woman was found dead in the home.
At that point, they cordoned off the home and began processing the scene for evidence.
The woman's body was turned over to the coroner's office. According to Green, police officials spoke with the pathologist who conducted an autopsy on Friday, February 21.
In his preliminary findings, the pathologist determined that injuries to Broussard were consistent with strangulation and blunt trauma to her body.
The examination and investigation continue, and the official cause of death will be determined and shared at a later date, according to officials at the coroner's office.
While the investigation continues, Green says detectives arrested Broussard's boyfriend, 46-year-old Jarvon Montague of New Iberia.
Montague was charged with one count of second-degree murder, and the man was subsequently booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center.
According to officials, they want anyone who might have any information in reference to this death or any information about Montague to contact them at the Lafayette Police Department at 337-291-8600.
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact the Lafayette Police Department at 337-291-8600 or Lafayette Crime Stoppers at 337-232-TIPS (8477)."
