Louisiana’s Roadway Tragedy: Motorcyclist Killed in Devastating Crash
Louisiana State Police officials continue investigating after a motorcyclist was struck and killed on the night of Friday, February 21 at around 7 o'clock. The tragic death happened as a vehicle was behind the motorcyclist on a Louisiana road.
According to Trooper First Class Peggy Bourque with the Public Affairs Section of Louisiana State Police, their preliminary investigation shows that a car was driving down Louisiana Highway 385 behind a motorcycle rider going in the same direction.
Bourque says as 52-year-old Carson McCain was slowing down on his motorcycle to take a left turn, for reasons unknown at this time, the driver of the car, 35-year-old Catharine Carlin, hit the back of the motorcycle, sending McCain flying off of his bike.
Officials say McCain was wearing a DOT-approved helmet when he tried to take the left turn into the private driveway, but when he was thrown from the motorcycle, his injuries were fatal. The coroner's officer pronounced McCain dead at the scene of the crash.
The driver of the vehicle, Carlin, was wearing a seat belt, had minor injuries, and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Bourque says routine toxicology tests will be run after they get samples from both drivers.
Louisiana State Police officials want to remind drivers of the following:
- Never drive when you are fatigued.
- Make sure you never allow anything to distract you from your primary responsibility behind the wheel, which is driving.
- Everyone in a vehicle is required to wear a seat belt.
- Never get behind the wheel when you are impaired by any substance.
