Mega Millions, Texas Lottery Confirm ‘Mega’ Win Tuesday
The Texas Lottery has previously confirmed Mega Millions winners in Richardson, Texas that's where Wendy won $40,000. And in Wolfforth, Texas the Texas Lottery has confirmed that Adam was a $10,000 winner. Those big wins came in previous drawings of the multi-state lottery game Mega Millions.
Meanwhile, last night, the Texas Lottery and Mega Millions hosted yet another big jackpot drawing for an estimated $760 million just in time for Christmas. The Mega Millions lottery has not had a jackpot winner since September when oddly enough a Texas Lottery sold ticket claimed the jackpot prize of $800 million. Was Tuesday, December 17, 2024, going to be the night that "lottery lightning" struck twice in Texas?
Let's find out. Here's how the drawing unfolded if you didn't get the chance to watch.
Did you know that since 2002 there have been 13 Mega Million Jackpots won in the month of December? Guess what? We did not get the 14th last night so the Mega Millions money is going to continue to grow. Game officials say next Friday's jackpot of $825 million (estimated) would be the largest Mega Millions prize ever won in the month of December. It would also be the seventh-largest jackpot ever awarded by the game.
So, we know there was no jackpot win, but there were several Match 5 Million tickets sold for Tuesday's drawing. Five tickets sold across the game's footprint earned a prize of one million dollars. Those tickets were sold in the neighboring states of Oklahoma and Louisiana plus two others in California. There was also a Match 5 Million ticket sold in North Carolina. That ticket holder invoked the "Megaplier" and because of that, their prize will be $4 million.
Tuesday's numbers looked a bit odd to me. As an amateur Lotologist, I can't recall seeing a number scenario where none of the white balls were below 56. The other four were in sequential order which seldom happens too.
Here are Tuesday's numbers as we saw them roll out of the hopper.
56 66 67 68 69 Mega Ball 18 Megaplier x4
If you think you have a winner based on those numbers before you can make it official you need to verify your ticket at the Official Mega Millions website or the Official Texas Lottery website.
Quite a few of you do have tickets to verify. My source at the Texas Lottery confirmed that 130,400 winning tickets for Mega Millions were sold in the state last night. That means over 130,000 players at least got their money back. Some 48,000 of those players opted for the Megaplier which means their tickets were four times face value.
We do know of two tickets sold in Texas that earned a prize of $40,000 and there were perhaps three others that earned a prize of $10,000 in last night's Mega Millions.
Tonight the Texas Lottery will focus on a Powerball jackpot of $69 million and a Lotto Texas with Extra! jackpot of $53.25 million. Remember if you opt for Power Play on Powerball there is a chance your winnings could be multiplied by 10 in tonight's drawing.
