Mega Millions, Texas Lottery Results: 4 New Millionaires Made Tuesday
It started over the weekend in the panhandle from Lubbock and Amarillo. Then it slid through Big Springs, Abilene, and the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. During the day on Tuesday, it finally pushed through Houston and Galveston, and by lunchtime the feeling of winning big in the Mega Millions Lottery game was statewide.
No, wait, that was just colder weather that swept across the state. Now that does feel good but it can hardly hold a candle to this other feeling. The cool feeling of waking up not needing to go into the office on Wednesday. That swept across Texas late last night, around 10 to be precise because that's when they held a Mega Millions Lottery drawing with a top prize of $619 million.
As in the case of most stories about Mega Millions and the Texas Lottery we have a good news/bad news scenario we need to share. Depending on what numbers happen to be on your ticket will determine whether or not you lump the information we're about to share into the "good bucket" or the "bad bucket".
Mega Millions Draws for Estimated Prize of $619 Million Tuesday Night
Do you realize that the last time the Mega Millions multi-state lottery game jackpot had a winner was September 10th? We were still having heat advisories, Hurricane Season was in full swing, and the Dallas Cowboys were undefeated.
That was then, this is now, and here is how the Mega Millions drawing for Tuesday, December 10, 2024, played out last night from the studios of WSB-TV in Atlanta Georgia.
Now comes the good news/bad news portion of our narrative. If you played Mega Millions in Texas you did not win the jackpot. That would be bad news. The good news is neither did anyone else so you could play again for even more money on Friday night.
We did get confirmation from our sources at Mega Millions that the game did create four new millionaires on Tuesday night. None of those new millionaires purchased their tickets in Texas. The big money winners were in California where two Match 5 Million tickets were sold. There was also a million-dollar winner in Maryland. But the game's biggest prize will go to a Florida-sold ticket. They not only earned the Match 5 Million prize, they invoked the Megaplier.
Here's how the numbers rolled out of the hopper on Tuesday.
12 14 26 48 52 Mega Ball 21 Megaplier x5
With a Megaplier of five, the Florida Match 5 winner will earn a prize of $5 million. See, it can really pay big to play the multipliers on both Mega Millions and Powerball. By the way, use those numbers for reference but please verify your ticket at the Official Mega Millions website or the Official Texas Lottery website before you attempt to claim a prize.
Texas Lottery Confirms Mega Millions Winners on Tuesday
From the home office in Austin, our sources with the Texas Lottery tell us that the largest prize earned on a Texas ticket was $2,500. There were two dozen $2,500 winners and another 61 $500 winners in Texas from last night's drawing.
All in all, it appears as though almost 96,000 tickets sold across Texas for Tuesday's Mega Millions drawing earned all or some of their money back. Tonight the Texas Lottery will focus its attention on Powerball and Lotto Texas with Extra!
The Powerball game has an estimated jackpot of $30 million following a jackpot win over the weekend. Lotto Texas with Extra! is even more lucrative than the Powerball. The jackpot in that homegrown Lone Star State game is estimated to be $49.25 million when they draw tonight.
We understand the lure of big-money prizes from playing lottery games but we caution you there is a risk involved.
