New Iberia Hostage Situation Ends With Arrest

A New Iberia man was arrested yesterday after holding a woman hostage in an apartment in on Grand Pre Boulevard.

Iberia deputies were called out there around 1 o'clock yesterday afternoon after police say 31-year-old Thomas Chevalier was holding the woman against her will and threatening to hurt her.

Deputies surrounded the apartment, and when Chevalier tried to drive away with the woman, they arrested him.

She was taken to the hospital for observation, and he was arrested for home invasion, domestic abuse strangulation and violation of a protective order.
