‘No Refusal’ Checkpoints & Patrols For New Year’s Week
Louisiana State Police Troop I is conducting DWI 'Not Refusal' checkpoints during New Year’s week. 'No Refusal begins Tuesday, December 29, 2015 in Lafayette parish and continues through the New Year holiday in the Troop I area.
Impaired drivers are historically responsible for crashes leading to serious injuries and fatalities during holiday weekends. Troop I Troopers will aggressively patrol highways this entire holiday week to ensure the safety of everyone travelling. Those suspected of impaired driving who refuse to submit to a chemical test will receive a search warrant for a blood and/or urine sample for judge review. If probably cause is found, the judge can sign the warrant and require the driver to submit to the test.
'No Refusal' is being implemented during the New Year’s holiday due to a nationwide trend during certain holiday periods when alcohol consumption increases, such as Memorial Day, July 4th, Mardi Gras, Labor Day, etc. Families and loved ones who lose loved ones due to impaired drivers are forever changed by the senselessness of their loved ones' deaths.
