Sunday morning, Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated a single vehicle fatal crash on US Highway 167 that took the life of an Opelousas man.  Troopers say the crash happened south of Ville Platte.

Around 6:15 a.m., troopers say 30-year-old Eddie Ray Williams was driving down highway 167, and for unknown reasons he drove off the road.  Troopers say his truck drove off the right side of the roadway where it hit an embankment, and he hit a tree.

Louisiana State Police troopers say Williams was not wearing a seat belt, and he was thrown out of the truck.  He was later pronounced dead by the Evangeline Parish Cororner.

Troopers say that they do not know if Williams was impaired at the time his truck crashed, but they do say that
routine toxicology samples were obtained.  They say the samples will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
