Pedestrian Killed On LA 343 Near Ridge Road

The victim has been identified as 30-year-old Jared Hubner of Lafayette.

A 30 year old pedestrian was killed shortly after 1:00 am today on LA 343 near Ridge Road. According to Louisiana State Police a man was walking along the shoulder of the road when for some reason stepped into the road. 47 year old Samuel Yeates of Welsh was driving the Chevy pickup that struck and killed the pedestrian. Yeates was properly restrained and was not injured. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the the scene by the Lafayette Parish Coroner. Impairment is not suspected but Yeates submitted to a breathalyzer test which indicated he was sober. The crash remains under investigation. The victim's name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
