St. Landry Parish sales tax numbers have gone down for the first time in almost two years.  The St. Landry Parish School Board has the duty of tracking sales tax numbers for the parish, and their figures show that sales tax collections fell nine percent in November.  That is the first time the parish has seen sales tax figures drop in the last twenty-three months.

Numbers for November of 2011 show the parish collected five million dollars in sales taxes, but that number has dropped to four and a half million dollars for this year's November collection numbers.

Even though parish collections have gone done, the news is not all bad for certain parts of St. Landry Parish.  Both Opelousas and Eunice saw growth in their towns. Opelousas say an increase of one percent, while sales tax collections in the city of Eunice went up by five percent.
