Shooter Blasts Gas Line in Opelousas, Leak Contained Quickly

It was a shooting of a different kind in Opelousas on Thursday. Police in that St. Landry Parish town reports an unknown assailant opened fire with a weapon in the 900 block of Bernice Street. While police aren't exactly certain who the shooter's target may have been at this time. They do know the only thing the shooter managed to hit was a gas line.

The incident took place around noon near the federal housing projects located on Bernice Street and Ina Clare in the city of Opelousas. According to reports, the unknown shooter fired as many as 15 rounds in the general direction of the residences there. However, the only victim, in this case, was a natural gas line.

Officials were able to mitigate the leak caused by the shots in fairly short order and no other injuries were reported at the scene. The damage was considered to be minor and has since been repaired.

Police speculate the gunplay was part of an ongoing dispute between two parties that live near the area. So far police do not have a suspect in custody but their investigation into the incident is ongoing.
