They are attempting to do it in Dallas this morning. The same thing can be said for folks in Dennison and Texarkana too. What are they attempting to do? Stay warm. And a product that many Texans use to keep warm from Walmart has been recalled. No, the giant retailer is not asking you to return an electric blanket, a space heater, or even that really cool Snuggie you got for Christmas.

The product being recalled is Great Value Chicken Broth. If you like to make a hearty hot soup for a cold winter day you might use chicken broth in your recipe. It's certainly a great way to warm up when ice and snow are in your forecast as they are for a lot of towns and communities in Texas today.

A lot of Texas chefs and more importantly Texas cooks, enhance the flavor of their soups, stews, and even pasta and rice dishes by using broth or stock in place of water. The problem with stock or broth is this. Unlike water, broth and stocks can spoil and that is the concern that has prompted the recall from the Food and Drug Administration on the Walmart store brand.

According to the FDA, the recall is for "potential for packaging failures that could compromise the sterility of the product, resulting in spoilage." The product in question is the Great Value Chicken Broth in the 48-ounce carton.

The products have a "best if used by date of March 25, 2026". You will also want to check the bottom of the packaging for the lot code. In this case, you are looking for 98F09234. The FDA says over 2,000 cases of the product fall into the recall advisory.

As of now, Walmart says the only states the recalled product was shipped to were Arkansas and Alabama. Texas shoppers who might venture across the state line to shop should pay attention to the recall. And, if you happen to have Great Value Chicken Broth in the 48-ounce container in your pantry, even if you don't live in Arkansas or Alabama, you're encouraged to check the used-by date and the lot number as a precaution.

The broth was manufactured by Tree House Foods Inc. of British Columbia so far no illness or injury has been reported by the FDA or Walmart. If you do have the product in your home you're advised to discard it or bring the container into your local Walmart for a refund or replacement.
