Groundbreaking ceremonies were held this morning on Francois Road in St. Martinville for a new $1.6 Million firing range. Once completed the range will be able to accommodate sixteen shooters on the pistol range and five shooters on the rifle range. Included in the facility will be a classroom, breakroom and restrooms. The classroom will accommodate 30 people for in-service training, Ladies firearm classes, hunter safety and Conceal/Carry classes.

The facility will feature a state of the art target system, bullet catching system, 10 foot cement walls on each side and a 16 foot cement wall in the rear to act as a berm. Spent rounds will be collected in a steel containment trap that will allow for recycling of ammunition. Public access for the range is projected for 2017.
