Louisiana State Police say a St. Martinville man was killed in a single-vehicle crash on La. 182 last night.

Master Trooper Brooks David said 29-year-old Leon Lewis was driving westbound on La. 182 near Boudreaux Road when he drove off of the road, rolled over and hit a tree.

David said Lewis was not wearing a seat belt a the time of the crash.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is unknown if impairment is a factor in this crash.  A standard toxicology sample was taken from Lewis and sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that all occupants of a motor vehicle must be restrained, regardless of seating position.  While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained.  Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death. --Master Trooper Brooks David.
