
FBI Director Says Person in Custody Released, Charlie Kirk’s Shooter Still at Large
OREM, Utah (KPEL News) — A suspect in custody in the Charlie Kirk shooting has been released, according to FBI Director Kash Patel. The shooter remains at large.
In a public statement, Patel confirmed the "subject in custody has been released after an interrogation by law enforcement." He went on to say the investigation is ongoing.

Law enforcement officials have confirmed that a suspect in the shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk is in custody. Authorities are also confirming they believe the shooting to be politically motivated.
FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed that an arrest had been made late Wednesday afternoon. The suspect has not been identified at this time.
President Donald Trump confirmed Kirk died as a result of the shooting in a statement on social media.
"The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead," the president wrote on Truth Social. "No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie."
He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us," the statement continued. "Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!"

Video from the scene showed what appeared to be an older man in custody after the shooting. However, authorities confirmed that the man, identified as George Zinn, was not the suspect. Reports indicated he was arrested for obstruction.

President Donald Trump has announced on social media that the founder of Turning Point USA, Charlie Kirk, has died.
Kirk was a close ally of the president and a longtime supporter. Trump posted the news on his Truth Social account, which was subsequently shared on other social media platforms.
The shooter is still at large. Previous video showed a man in custody, though law enforcement has since confirmed that the man was not the shooter.

ORIGINAL STORY
Conservative radio host Charlie Kirk was hosting an event at Utah Valley University when someone appears to have pulled a gun and shot him.
According to video being circulated online, Kirk was struck in the neck, with multiple reports indicating he has been hospitalized and is in critical condition.
Kirk's organization, Turning Point USA, was hosting the event. Kirk is known to invite people to debate him on the political hot button issues of the day at these events.
According to reports, an older gentleman stood up to debate Kirk, and during the discussion, he pulled out the gun and shot the conservative radio host, hitting him in the neck. There are no official details out now, though multiple media outlets are confirming Kirk was shot.
