Teen Driver Dies In Crash After Colliding With A Cow
A 16-year-old driver who wasn't buckled up has died in a crash after she hit livestock that was standing in the middle of the road near the St. Landry/Evangeline Parish line.
State Police Sgt. Jared Sandifer says the female victim is identified as Adrian Johnson of Washington.
"She was in her vehicle last night, and for whatever reason there was a cow standing in the road. Unfortunately her vehicle struck the cow then traveled into a ditch and crashed into a culvert," said Sandifer. "She suffered fatal injuries as a result of that crash."
Sandifer says responding troopers reported that Johnson wasn't wearing a seat belt when she struck the cow. He reminds all drivers that Louisiana law requires everyone in a vehicle to be restrained.
"We don't know if it would have affected the outcome of this crash, but we do know that wearing that seat belt increases the chances of surviving an accident significantly," said Sandifer.
