Texas Lottery Confirms Miracle Powerball Win Christmas Eve
It's Christmastime in Texas! They are getting ready for Santa's arrival in the Big Country near Abilene. They're waiting for St. Nick in Far West Texas around Midland Odessa too. In the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex and in Greater Houston and San Antonio they're cursing the holiday traffic and wishing they were living in those aforementioned parts of the state. Of course, a win in the Powerball game would expedite that move, wouldn't it?
There was a Monday Powerball drawing and our sources at the Texas Lottery took the time to make sure that we were aware of the outcome of Monday's game. The estimated annuitized jackpot for the Powerball game was posted as $108 million or $49.3 million if you won and opted for the cash payment.
In the rush of the holiday season it's a fair bet most of you couldn't watch Monday's Powerball drawing, so here it is.
Our sources at Powerball confirmed that no ticket sold for Monday, December 23, 2024, matched the numbers needed to win the game's jackpot prize. That amount will now grow until the next Powerball drawing is held on Wednesday night. And yes, Powerball will hold a drawing on December 25, 2024.
There was one Match 5 Million prize earned in last night's drawing. That ticket was purchased in Michigan. As far as Texas wins go, it was an "okay" evening with Powerball. A state sold ticket did earn a big prize and there were more than a few players who returned more than they invested in Monday's game.
The top prize won by a Texas-sold ticket in Monday's Powerball game was $100,000. A player matched four of the five white balls and invoked the Power Play option to lay claim to that amount. There were 21 tickets that earned a $100 prize and ten of those opted for Power Play so their money is doubled because of the "x2" multiplier.
All in all, the Texas Lottery reported just over 34,000 winning tickets for Monday's drawing. About one-third of those tickets, 14,000 or so opted for the Power Play. If you can afford it, I would always opt for the multiplier, that just makes sense to me, but you should know your own budget for lottery games.
If you'd like to check your numbers here is what we saw roll out of the hoppers.

If you think you have a winner please verify that ticket at either the Official Texas Lottery website or the Official Powerball website. Those are the sites of record when it comes to verifying your winnings and claiming prizes.
There was no big winner in Lotto Texas with Extra! on Monday either. That game now features a top prize of more than $57 million for the annuity. It's a little bit less for the lump sum cash payout. There will be a Lotto Texas with Extra! and a Powerball drawing on Christmas Night. So, if you play those games and get some "stocking money" that might be a fun way to turn a few bucks into a 12-pack or a new house.
There will be a Mega Millions drawing tonight. The top prize in Mega Millions is an estimated $970 million for the annuity. If you win and opt for the cash payout you're looking at $439.9 million before the tax man arrives with his hand out.
And yes, the Mega Millions game has made a jackpot winner on Christmas Eve. Oddly enough the big win on Christmas Eve came in the game's first year of existence. The most recent Mega Millions jackpot win of more than $800 million was earned by a Texas-sold ticket so maybe we can do two in a row for Christmas.
If you're counting on a lottery win to make your Christmas merry and bright, please don't. Lottery games come with a risk of losing money and most people who play do lose their investment.
