Texas Lottery Confirms New Year’s Day Powerball Win
After a busy New Year's Eve across Texas things were eerily calm across the Lone Star State on Wednesday, many Texans in the Austin area had their focus on Atlanta, the one in Georgia not the Atlanta that's in Texas, for the Peach Bowl football game. Still others in cities such as Dallas, Houston, Beaumont, San Antonio, and Cypress may have been nursing a bit of a New Year's Day hangover. Hopefully, the sound of the ping pong balls dropping in the Powerball game wasn't too loud last night.
But yes, there was the sound of balls dropping and money being won courtesy of the multi-state Powerball game on New Year's Night. Mega Millions, the other multi-state lottery game had a drawing on New Year's Eve, here are the Texas results if you missed them. So, last night, it was Powerball's turn to step into the spotlight with $181.1 million (estimated) on the line.
Here's how the drawing went down for January 1, 2025.
Our sources at Powerball did confirm that no ticket sold across the game's footprint matched the numbers needed to claim the jackpot prize of over $181 million. So, the jackpot in Saturday's Powerball drawing will climb. As of now, the estimated jackpot for the annuity is $200 million. If you opted for the lump sum your payout would be approximately $90.7 million. Of course, then the tax man would want a word with you.
What Were The Powerball Numbers on New Year's Day?
There were two Match 5 Million prizes won across the Powerball landscape. Those million-dollar prize winners were sold in Arizona and North Carolina. The Texas Lottery did confirm a $150,000 winner was sold in the Lone Star State for the New Year's Day drawing.
Our source at the Texas Lottery confirmed the $150,000 winner matched four of the five white balls and the Powerball and the ticket's purchaser had opted for the Power Play multiplier which in last night's drawing was "times 3". Here are the numbers that we saw roll out of the hopper.
06 12 28 35 66 Powerball 26 Power Play x3
If you think you have a winner please verify your ticket or tickets at the Official Texas Lottery website or the Official Powerball website. Those are the official sites of record and they can offer information on the most efficient way for you to collect your winnings.
Lotto Texas with Extra! also conducted a drawing on New Year's Night. There was no jackpot winner according to our source at the Texas Lottery. We do know that five tickets sold for that drawing earned a prize of $12,713 while another eleven tickets earned a prize of $2,713. All 16 of those Lotto Texas winners matched five of the six numbers that were drawn. The $10,000 difference was spending the extra buck for the "Extra" in Lotto Texas with Extra!.
What Is the Powerball Jackpot?
The jackpot in Lotto Texas will now climb to $62 million for Saturday night's drawing. Mega Millions on Friday will be $42 million. As we mentioned, Powerball on Saturday will climb to an estimated $200 million.
