Texas Lottery Confirms Rare ‘Triple Win’ in Saturday’s Powerball
As an observer of the Texas Lottery for as long as there has been a Texas Lottery, I can tell you your best plan of action is to always expect the unexpected. Just like you can't count on the Dallas Cowboys holding a lead in the 4th quarter, you can't count on Texas Lottery games to play and pay the way "the math" says they should.
It's through those crazy quirks and twists in the way probability works that we wind up telling you about a $2 million lottery winner in Lubbock, a $3 million lottery winner in San Antonio, and then there is that family in Sugar Land, Texas that suddenly found themselves with an extra $800 million. I guess that's why each week we lay our money down and hope that it's our turn for a "miracle".
If you didn't hear the biggest win in the Texas Lottery last week was the $83.5 million win on Lotto Texas with Extra! There is some controversy surrounding that winning ticket and how it was sold but I don't think anybody skirted the rules, but we'll still have to wait for the dust to settle in that discussion.
Meanwhile, over the weekend on Saturday, there was a drawing in the multi-state Powerball game. That game offered players a chance to win an estimated top prize of $218.8 million. Here's how Saturday's drawing played out.
Our sources at Powerball confirmed that no ticket sold across the game's footprint matched the numbers needed to claim the $218.8 million. There were two Match 5 Million winners sold for Saturday's drawing. Those tickets were purchased in Illinois and Vermont.
Meanwhile, there were two tickets sold for the February 22, 2025 Powerball drawing that matched four of five with the Powerball and the Power Play, those tickets earned a prize of $100,000. That brings us to our rare "Texas Triple".
In my years of watching Powerball, Mega Millions, and the other games of the Texas Lottery it is very seldom that we have come across three different tickets that matched the same prize-winning scenario. Saturday's Powerball results confirmed by our sources at the Texas Lottery revealed that there were three $50,000 winners sold for Saturday night. And no, none of those ticket purchasers opted for the Power Play.
Here are the numbers from Saturday night:
07 18 22 50 65 Powerball 15 Power Play x2
The Texas Lottery does not reveal point of purchase details for prize wins of less than $1 million but if you do think you're holding a winning ticket you'll need to verify those numbers at this link. That's the Texas Lottery winners link, it not only confirms your prize amount but will offer information on the best way to collect your winnings.
Powerball will draw again tonight. The estimated jackpot for the annuity is $230 million with a lump sum estimation of $105.2 million for those who might prefer the "cash option". Lotto Texas with Extra! following that big win last week will draw $5.5 million as well.
Mega Millions, the other multi-state lottery game available in Texas will play for $181 million on Tuesday night. Please remember all lottery games involve a risk of losing money. Only play with what you can afford to lose. If you have a gambling problem call 1-800-GAMBLER. The call and the referral to counseling are free for you and your family. Good Luck.
