Texas Lottery Confirms Single Ticket Wins $478 Million Powerball

Our sources at the Texas Lottery offices in Austin, Texas have confirmed a major Powerball Lottery win from Wednesday night's drawing. Based on information from the Texas Lottery and from Powerball we can confirm that a single ticket sold for the October 23, 2024 Powerball drawing matched all the numbers needed to claim the game's top prize.

Wednesday's Powerball jackpot had been building since August 12th of this year. That's when a single ticket sold in Pennsylvania matched the numbers needed to claim the game's top prize at the time of $213.8 million.

If you're not familiar with the Powerball multi-state lottery game it is played in 45 states, the US Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and the District of Columbia. The cost of a Powerball ticket is $2. A player may opt for the Power Play option for an extra dollar. The  Power Play is a multiplier that is drawn at random during each Powerball drawing.

The white balls in the Powerball game range from 1 to 69 and each player must select five of those numbers. The "red" Powerballs range from 1 to 26 and a player chooses one Powerball number per ticket. Of course, most players let the computer make a "quick pick" when purchasing their tickets.

As we mentioned one ticket sold for Wednesday's drawing matched all the numbers needed to earn the jackpot prize of an estimated $478.2 million. Based on information from the Georgia Lottery it appears as though that big winner was sold in the Peach State.

But that wasn't the game's only big win last night.

For the third night in a row, a multi-state lottery game has made a new millionaire in Texas. The Texas Lottery has confirmed a Match 5 Million winner in the Lone Star State for last night's drawing. That million-dollar winner was sold in Cypress, Texas at the Kroger on Barker Cypress Road.

Powerball game officials also confirmed a Match 5 Million winner was sold in Pennsylvania for the October 23rd drawing. Meanwhile, the Texas Lottery confirmed a few more big wins for Texas Lottery players.  We've learned a ticket sold in Texas earned a $50,000 prize for matching four of five white balls and the Powerball. All in all, 48,480 tickets sold in Texas for Wednesday's game earned a prize of at least $4

The Texas Lottery also revealed that there was no jackpot winner in the Lotto Texas with Extra! game on Wednesday. That game produced five tickets that earned a prize of $11,633 and another 14 tickets that earned a prize of $1,633.
