Fans of the Texas Rangers and Houston Astros baseball teams in their respective cities of Arlington and Houston know how rare a "triple" can be. Even the great college baseball teams in Austin at UT and in College Station at A&M know that a "triple" accounts for less than 1% of all base hits made in a baseball game. Fortunately, baseball logic doesn't apply to the Texas Lottery or the Powerball game.

Monday's drawing in the multi-state Powerball game produced a Texas win that I don't think I have ever witnessed in my decades of covering life-changing jackpots. I guess 2024 is the year of lottery surprises for Texas players and "lotologists" that cover these games of chance.

You might recall just last week we reported on a rare occurrence that was a part of last Monday's (11/04/24) drawing. You can read about that strange result here but let's get back to the present and the Powerball drawing for Monday, November 11, 2024.

Here is how that drawing played out.

The jackpot available for Texas Lottery players in the Powerball game was an estimated $102.7 million dollars. That's what the annuity payment was estimated to be, the lump sum payout was estimated to be $48.5 million.  Our sources at Powerball did confirm that no tickets sold for Monday's game matched the numbers needed to claim the game's jackpot. There were also no Match 5 Million winners confirmed for Monday either.

Texas Lottery Confirms a Triple Powerball Win on Monday Night

From our sources in Austin at the Texas Lottery, we have learned that three different tickets were sold in the state for Monday's Powerball that matched four of the five white balls and the Powerball. By rule, those tickets have earned a prize of $50,000. But wait there's more. Do I sound like the late Billy Mays?

The "more" is three times more because the Power Play for last night's game was "x3" and each of the $50,000 winners invoked the Power Play option. So Texas had three $150,000 Powerball winners.

All in all, just over 10,000 Texas Powerball tickets opted for the Power Play and were prize winners. Based on our observation that means about half of Monday's players in Texas plunked down an extra buck for a chance to win a bigger prize.

The numbers from Monday's Powerball were reported to be:

03   21   24   34   46   Powerball 09   Power Play x3.

Verify your numbers at the Official Texas Lottery Website or the Official Powerball Website, please. Those are the "official" sites to confirm and redeem prizes. Some of the larger prizes require a bit more paperwork too.

What is the Lotto Texas With Extra! Jackpot?

This game is quite a conundrum to me. Based on our stats and mathematics the Lotto Texas with Extra! game should have produced a jackpot winner weeks ago. But alas, the jackpot has now risen to $39.75 million since there was no winner on Monday night. There were four tickets sold in Texas that earned a prize of $11,474 bucks but that's not $39.75 million, is it?

The next opportunity to play Powerball and Lotto Texas with Extra! will come on Wednesday night. Meanwhile, Mega Millions is actually the largest jackpot available for lottery players in Texas. That game draws tonight (Tuesday) for a chance to win an estimated top prize of $361 million.

Please remember that lottery games do require a risk of losing money. If you can't afford to lose then you can't afford to play. If you have a gambling problem help is available by calling 1-800-GAMBLER. The call and the referrals to counseling are free for you. Good Luck.
