Texas Lottery officials in Austin have confirmed that a single ticket sold for Tuesday's Mega Millions Lottery drawing matched all the numbers needed to claim the game's top prize of $800 million. The Texas Lottery has also confirmed that the jackpot winner was sold in the state of Texas.
It had been since the first week of June that the Mega Millions multi-state lottery game had gotten a jackpot winner. On June 4th a ticket sold in Illinois matched the five white ball numbers and the Mega Ball to claim the game's jackpot at the time which was $560 million.
Over the next 28 drawings, the game's jackpot total grew from $20 million to the current $800 million annuitized amount. By the way, the lump sum payout for an $800 Mega Millions win was projected to be $404.2 million.
In addition to the $800 million winner Texas tickets, according to our sources at the Texas Lottery in Austin earned eight $10,000 prizes and two $40,000 prizes. Here is how last night's drawing for September 10, 2024 played out.
Our sources at Mega Millions confirmed that the Texas-sold ticket may have been the biggest prize winner last night but tickets sold in several other states did well too. By "did well" we can only assume the Mega Millions spokesperson was speaking about the Match 5 Million tickets that were sold in California, New York, Florida, and Washington.

The Texas Lottery has also revealed that the winning ticket was purchased in the Houston, Texas suburb of Sugar Land. The $800 million winner was purchased at a Murphy USA location on Highway 90A in Sugar Land.
