The Texas Lottery has confirmed the state's lottery players were once again dancing with Lady Luck on Tuesday night when the Mega Millions multi-state lottery game held its drawing. That game has produced a $3 million win in Houston, a $50,00 win in Spring, and a $40,000 win in Hondo over the past four months.

So you can imagine the excitement generated by last night's drawing on the heels of Monday's news from the Texas Lottery that confirmed a single ticket playing the Powerball Lottery game won that game's top prize of just over $213 million.

Would lightning strike twice two days in a row for lottery players in the Lone Star State? That's what those who invested a couple of dollars for the chance to become an instant millionaire were hoping for as Tuesday's drawing in the Mega Millions game unfolded.

Here's how the drawing for August 13, 2024 played out.

When the balls came bounding out of the hopper for last night's game the estimated annuitized jackpot was $435 million. If a ticket matched all the numbers needed to claim the game's top prize and opted for the cash or lump sum payout that total would have been closer to $213 million.

Here are the numbers that we observed in last night's Mega Millions game:

34   55   59   65   70   Megaball 12   Megaplier x4

Use those numbers as reference but please verify your ticket against the Official Mega Millions Website or the Official Texas Lottery Website. Those sites can confirm your winnings, should you be fortunate to be holding a winning ticket. The sites also have information on how to claim your prize.

Our sources at Mega Millions say no ticket sold across the game's footprint matched the numbers needed to claim the $435 million top prize. There was a Match 5 Million winner that was sold in New York. But as far as Texas-sold tickets go, we know of at least two people who will wake up wishing that lottery games were like horseshoes, you know where "close" counts.

The Texas Lottery confirmed to us that two tickets sold for Tuesday's Mega Millions drawing missed the $435 million by one number. Both tickets matched four of the five white balls and they matched the Mega Ball. By rule, that combination is worth $10,000 to the ticket holder.

That's why one of last night's winners will take home $10,000 before taxes and the other will take home $40,000 before taxes. The reason for the difference the "times 4" Megaplier option that one ticket purchaser opted for while the other did not.

The Mega Millions jackpot is expected to climb to $464 million by the time Friday night's drawing rolls around. That is the estimated annuitized jackpot, the lump sum is estimated to be $228.2 million for Friday night.
