Texas Lottery Reveals Massive Mega Millions Win on Friday
The first full weekend of December across Texas usually means Christmas celebrations in cities such as Beaumont, Winnie, Jasper, and Orange. Of course, there are a lot of other Texas towns that are getting Merry and Bright this weekend too.
And if there is one thing we know about getting "Merry and Bright" for Christmas it's this. It takes a lot of green and Friday's Mega Millions drawing, according to the Texas Lottery, has added copious amounts of green to several lucky Texas Lottery players.
The estimated jackpot on Friday, December 6, 2024, in the Mega Millions multi-state lottery game was $579 million. The lump sum payout on that amount was estimated to be $278.4 million. Here's how the Friday night Mega Millions drawing played out.
Our sources with the Texas Lottery revealed there were some big-money winners sold in Texas. However, we did confirm with sources at Mega Millions that none of the Texas tickets nor any tickets for that matter matched the numbers needed to claim the game's jackpot prize of $579 million.
What we do know is that a Texas-sold ticket was one of four that earned the largest prize in Friday's drawing. The Texas Lottery did confirm to us that over 86,000 tickets sold in Texas last night earned a cash prize. About a quarter of those tickets opted for the Megaplier in last night's game so their prize was enhanced by a multiple of two.
Here are the numbers that we saw revealed in Friday's Mega Millions drawing.
16 21 33 39 45 Mega Ball 24 Megaplier x2
If those numbers lead you to believe that you are holding a winning ticket, please verify that ticket at the Official Texas Lottery website or the Official Mega Millions website. Those are the sites of record when it comes to "official results". And, those "official sites" can also help you with prize redemption information too.
We do know a Texas-sold Mega Millions ticket earned $40,000 by matching four of five white balls and the Mega Ball. The player also opted for the Megaplier. Two other tickets sold in Texas matched that same number scenario but they did not invoke the Megaplier. Their prize is noted to be $20,000.
Tonight's Powerball jackpot is estimated to be $260 million for the annuity or $123 million for the lump sum. That drawing is at 10 tonight. The Texas Lottery will also draw for Lotto Texas with Extra! tonight. The top prize in that game is $48.25 million. In my opinion, Lotto Texas may be the best value on the board when it comes to instant riches.
Here is where we caution you about the risk of losing money when you play lottery games. It happens more often than winners do. If you have a gambling problem please seek help. The Texas Lottery encourages you to dial 1-800-GAMBLER. The call is free the referrals to counseling are also at no charge. Good Luck.
