Last night, the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office teamed up with the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office for an investigation into a tug boat captain who was suspected of stealing fuel from his employer and then selling it from a dock in the Cypremort Point area.

Detectives set up a surveillance operation at the location off of Louisiana Highway 319 on the Intracoastal Waterway.

Detectives say they were able to witness tug boat personnel pumping diesel fuel from the boat into a tanker truck parked right by the water.  As they approached, the boat workers dropped the hose and fled.

Detectives arrested the truck driver and passenger, Louis M. Dutreil and Eric S. Landry.

The captain of the tub boat, Rod Pellegrin, was located and arrested at a later time.

Pellegrin was charged with two counts of felony thefts, while both Dutreil and Landry were charged with illegal possession of stolen things.

Detectives learned Pellegrin was going to sell 2,000 gallons of diesel of fuel that night to the tune of $6,000.

Detectives also say Pellegrin profited from the sale of his employer's fuel on at least one other occasion.

Their investigation continues.
