Lafayette Police responded to two robberies in Lafayette last night that lead to a police chase into Vermilion Parish.

Lafayette Police Jim Craft tells KPEL that the two suspects were caught after they crashed the car they fled in.

One woman was held up near the intersection at Willow and the Thruway and a second robbery happened at Moss and Pont Des mouton.

A witness saw the suspects and the car, and they reported that to Lafayette Police.

Officers tried to conduct a traffic stop, but the suspects would not stop.

Lafayette Police, State Police, Kaplan Police and Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Deputies chased the suspects, and the chase finally came to an end when the suspects crashed the stolen vehicle.

Craft says 38-year-old Reco Williams of Lafayette, was taken into custody by a Lafayette Police Department K-9. He is been charged with simple robbery, resisting arrest and battery on an officer.

The second suspect, 34-year-old Earl Meche of Kaplan, was charged with aggravated flight from an officer, unauthorized use of a moveable and simple robbery.
