OPELOUSAS, La. (AP) — Deputies say the former director of the St. Landry Parish animal shelter and a current shelter employee have been arrested on animal cruelty and theft counts.

Sheriff Bobby Guidroz, who announced the arrests at the St. Landry Parish Council meeting Wednesday, said deputies booked former director Patricia Street and employee Troy Gallo on animal cruelty and theft of not more than $500, following an investigation by his office.

The Advocate reports the sheriff declined to elaborate on the arrests.

He says Street and Gallo bonded out of the parish jail shortly after they were booked.

It was unclear whether Street or Gallo have attorneys.
