UPDATE: KPEL News has learned more about the shooting.

According to a press release from Opelousas Police, one of the victims suffered a hand injury in the shooting. That person has been treated at a hospital and has been released. The other victim, meanwhile, still remains in the hospital in serious condition after being shot in the upper body.

Opelousas Police spokesman Major Mark Guidry says the victims were shot while they sat in a vehicle in front of a home on Park Avenue.

The vehicle seen below is believed to be involved in the shooting.

Original Story: Two people are in the hospital after an early morning shooting in Opelousas.

Police Chief Martin McLendon says that shooting happened a few minutes before 3 a.m. on Park Avenue between Ina Claire and Mouton Streets.

According to McLendon, officers found two victims when they arrived at the scene. One of the victims was shot in the chest. The other suffered what McLendon says is a non-life-threatening injury. Both were taken to the hospital.
