A St. Martinville man was killed last night in a single-vehicle crash in St. Martin Parish.

Master Trooper Brooks David reported 66-year-old Clyde Gedward was killed when he failed to negotiate a curve while traveling on La. 347 near Sonny Drive in St. Martinville.

Gedward's 2014 Ford Mustang ran off of the road striking a fence, then a telephone pole.

He sustained critical injuries. He was transported to a local hospital where he later died.

It is unknown if impairment is a factor in the crash.  Routine toxicology samples were taken and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

Louisiana law requires that every person in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up.  Not wearing a seat belt remains the leading cause of death in motor vehicle crashes.
