A GoFundMe page for three St. Landry Parish churches that burned has just crossed the million dollar mark.

The page was set up by Seventh District Baptist Association Finance Secretary Ruth V. Jack with a goal of $1.8 million. The page has been live since April 10, 2019, but yesterday the donations began to pour in as the GoFundMe link went viral.

As reported by our media partners at KATC, the link got a significant boost from a few high profile Twitter accounts.

Donations to help rebuild have also been pouring in locally as IBERIABank donated $6,000 and business owner Bob Giles has pledged to match up to $50,000 in donations. Former Saints tight end Benjamin Watson has also personally taken the fundraising efforts under his wing to help get the word out.

Holden Matthews was arrested in connection with the church fires and was formally charged with hate crimes on Monday. According to officials, funds raised by this campaign "will be distributed between the three churches."
