Residents of the Town of Washington received some surprising news at yesterday's meeting of the Washington Town Council. That news was this. Mayor James "Jim" Olivier had resigned. Confirmation of that resignation was documented by the Louisiana Secretary of State's Office. 

According to a report on KATC Olivier's resignation was announced at yesterday's meeting by Alderwoman at Large Mona Wilson.

Mayor Jim Olivier has resigned his position as mayor in the town of Washington due to health illness.

Several media outlets have reportedly reached out to now-former Mayor Olivier yet none of those calls have been returned. So, specifics on what kind of health issue or illness Mr. Olivier is dealing with is unknown at this time.

The Town of Washington will now have 20 days to appoint someone to fill the Mayor's position and call for a special election. The special election, which is required in connection with this vacancies will be November 3, 2020 (primary), December 5, 2020 (general), with July 15-17, 2020 (qualifying).
