Imagine having just about everything you've ever worked for in all of your life taken away from you in a five minute period. That's how five families in the Church Point area have to be feeling following the devastation left behind by Sunday's severe weather outbreak in the area.

Investigators with the National Weather Service have confirmed that the damage that destroyed several homes, injured nine and killed one was caused by an EF-3 tornado. Weather service investigators believe the winds in that storm could have reached or exceeded 150 miles per hour as it cut a destructive swath through northern Acadia Parish.

If you'd like to help the five families that lost virtually everything in Sunday's storms here is where you may drop off donations.

  • Wild Child Essentials, 129 W. Landry Street Opelousas, La.
  • Scottie Beans Theatre Productions, 119 N. Main Street, Church Point, La.
  • Cafe Maison, 583 Grand Marais Road, Church Point, La.

As you might expect donations of clothing and household items will be appreciated.

As far as monetary donations are concerned some families have set up GoFundMe accounts. If you'd like specific information on those KLFY TV is reporting that you may dial Shauna Sias at 337-308-8564 for specific details on those GoFundMe Accounts.
