If it wasn't for the weather and football what would Louisiana residents have to complain about? Why the roads, of course, it would be the roads that we would complain about. In fact, we might complain more about the roads than we do football and weather combined. That's why the news released late last week from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development could be seen as good news, especially in Acadiana.

LaDOTD announced bid results on Friday for several projects. A lot of that highway money will be spent on projects here in Acadiana. For example one of the bid results announced was for the Rouge Bayou Bridge. That project is in St. Landry Parish and affects motorists who use LA 360. The estimated cost of that project is $2,648,611.99.

Another project, this time in Acadia Parish, involves funding for a new boat ramp on Highway 90 in Mermantau. The anticipated cost to replace that boat ramp is $575,211.00. There is also another U.S. 90 project that has been bid. The project involves grading, milling, patching, widening, and overly on U.S. 90 between LA 14 and LA 397 in Calcasieu Parish. The cost of this project was bid at $1,320,467.11

DOTD also announced that in the area of Congestion Mitigation and Safety there would be money allocated to a project on Interstate 10. This would involve the installation of raised pavement markers on I-10 between Jefferson Davis Parish line and I-49 in Acadia and Lafayette Parishes. The cost of the project was bid at  $331,822.00

As always construction projects are subject to prioritization, urgency, unforeseeable emergencies, and other variables. If you'd like to see the list of projects currently bid and underway in the state, you may do so by viewing this website from LaDOTD.
