Lafayette PD Solves Decade-Old Homicide Case
The Lafayette Police Department has closed a 10-year-old homicide case with the arrests of three suspects.
Police spokesman Cpl. Karl Ratcliff said Edward Woods, Kendall Smith and Marcus Smith have been arrested on charges of second-degree murder for the death of Malcolm Davis.
On Aug. 10, 2007, officers responded to the 200 block of Jefferson Street in reference to a homicide. Witnesses told police the victim was struck and knocked unconscious after three males exited a vehicle. The suspects fled the scene and were unable to be identified.
The case went cold after no leads were developed. But in December 2016, the department re-opened the case.
Officers with the Special Investigations Unit reviewed evidence and re-interviewed witnesses.
Ratcliff said two suspects were identified via surveillance video; the third suspect was identified through interviews.
On May 10, police obtained arrest warrants for all three suspects on charges of second-degree murder.
