Two crashes in December have claimed two more lives in Louisiana this month according to Louisiana State Police.

Louisiana Trooper First Class, Tiah Larvadain with the Public Affairs Section Troop C, says that a crash that happened on Thursday, December 5 ultimately led to the death of a young woman.

The victim, Shonta'jia Gibson, was driving eastbound on Louisiana Highway 18 while another car was traveling westbound. What is still being investigated is why Gibson's vehicle crossed the center line and hit the other car head-on. Gibson was not wearing a seatbelt and was seriously wounded. Both Gibson and the other driver were taken to a hospital for treatment, but they were later notified that Gibson had died.

According to Larvadain, these are the preliminary investigation results, and investigators will continue investigating the case. The crash happened in St. James Parish.

In the second fatal crash, Larvadain says one car trying to pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone resulted in a traffic death. Around the noon hour on Tuesday, December 17 there was a serious crash on Louisiana Highway 20 near the area of Perez Lane.

What investigators determined for the preliminary investigation as far as a sequence of events was that a southbound car went into the northbound lane in a no-passing zone trying to pass a car. Another northbound car stopped to avoid a crash with the southbound car. A third vehicle driving northbound steered to the left so as not to hit the stopped vehicle, but ended up colliding with a southbound car.
While several passengers were sent to the hospital for treatment of injuries, later State Police learned that 78-year-old Herman Hall ultimately died from injuries he received in the crash.
According to Larvadain, the investigation into the crash continues.
