Around 8 PM Tuesday night traffic was snarled at a major intersection in Acadiana. Officials actually closed the roadway at the intersection of Ambassador Caffery Parkway and U.S. Highway 90 East. The reason was a single car crash.

Police in Broussard say a vehicle ran off the roadway and into a ditch causing it to flip and burst into flames. Police speculate that the flipping motion caused at least one of the two people in the vehicle to be ejected.

One person was seriously injured and airlifted to a hospital while the other passenger in the vehicle was treated for what were described as moderate injuries. Investigators in Broussard are still piecing evidence together from the accident scene and have not determined what caused the crash.
